Dana 60 parts in a Salisbury axle?

I would love to run an Eaton E-locker in the rear of my Defender, but it is not available for the Sals axle. It is, however, available for the D60. I am under the impression that these parts will fit, with or without some possible modification.

Pinion bearings are different, and require part #s HM88644 and HM88610.

Ring gear bolt size is different, which is remedied by using D60 gears.

Now my questions start, mostly to do with axles and spline counts.

The Eaton E-locker is available in either 30 or 35 spline. The Sals has 24 spline axles. What is the solution for this? It seems like Dana 60 axle shafts are needed, but then what do you do about wheel bearings, seals, bolt pattern, hubs, etc.?

The splines on the pinion will be different which would require a Dana 60 Driveshaft flange? Will this bolt up to the Rover driveshaft? Any part number for one that works?

Give Kieth at rover tracks a call. He's the man, for all your axle needs.

You would need 30 spline shafts. x2 on calling keith. My understanding is you can reuse your ring gear if you are sticking with 3.54.

I emailed Rovertracks a week or so and got no reply.

I will be sticking with 3.54.

If axle shafts are needed, then I guess I would need to machine the stub axles to accept them and do something about the hubs? This might be getting a little too expensive.

Keith does all that. I would call him. Personally, the detroit is cheap for the sals so I would run that.

I've run Lock-rights, detroits, e-lockers, arbs, etc., in the past. The ability to turn off the locker is something that I do not want to give up, especially knowing that the vehicle will be for sale at some point.

I guess Ill give him a call on Monday. Seems like he would respond to emails if he wanted to make some sales though.

Another vote for calling Keith - your email might have gotten sidetracked or he has been traveling/busy. Emails are usually easier but something like this would probably be better discussed over the phone. He answered a ton of my questions about his Toy conversion kit and was great getting things together for me.

Good luck with the Elocker setup - it sounds interesting.

Sorry Nopants, I don't think I ever got your E Mail. I check them always. Sometimes my server gets a little overzealous. Try rovertracks@hotmail.com.
An Eaton can Certainly be done.

I just wanted to update this and say that I did talk to Keith at Rovertracks and he was very helpful. Spent a fair amount of time on the phone answering my questions and explaining things.

I still have not decided what exactly I am going to do, since the D60 "conversion" is going to cost more than I was hoping.
