D-90 NAS stock towing capacity

Does anyone have experience towing a boat on a trailer with one? What would people suggest the maximum weight be? I have an ex-naxy 7 meter rhib I/O (Zodiac hurricane 733) on a dual axle trailer with surge brakes. The boat weighs 4500lbs. Think I'll be ok? or at the first red light will the trailer punch thru my rear cross member?

Thanks!

I have not been asked once if my 90 was a Jeep after I installed my new decal!

Book lists it as 3500lbs capacity. Can't help more than that, never towed anything big with mine.

i've towed my boat/trailer with surge brakes, all weighing in about 4,000 lbs even. no problems, although i've only done it for short distances, usually 15 miles or so each trip. front end of the 90 does get a little light on uphills, and even a little on the flats. so steering isn't the most responsive.
i'd think you'd be fine if it's a short haul, but wouldnt recommend a long trip.

I used to tow a 19' Marada I/O with my '94 NAS. It worked but it wasn't pretty.

Here is a thread I started about it.

Defenders can tow much more then you think and 97 has the higher rating per the manuals.
