I have a great 1984 d-90 with a disco 200tdi. Its in great shape with new doors, soft and hard tops, 2" lift and recovered seats and newer paint. I purchased it from site member Chuck Lemoine a few years ago (a great guy to deal with and he was very honest about the truck). Now I am considering buying a 1960 series II listed on this site. It has a series IIa motor (rebuilt) with a fairey overdrive. It looks to be really well maintained. I am considering switching back to a series, but am looking for advice on driveability in normal metropolitan traffic (around NYC). The defender keeps up just fine for me with the local traffic. I used to have a series IIa with no overdrive... It was slower than fudge through a funnel and had a comfortable top speed of 45mph. However, the fact that it had no overdrive and had kind of a cobbled together chevy 250 conversion may have not given me a fair gauge of the potential of a series truck. I am looking for opinions / comparison on ability of the series to keep up with normal traffic and highway driving. The owner says it cruises comfortably at 70mph with overdrive. I am considering the change because I would like more room and I cant afford a defender 110. I also like the iconic 109 look. Also the series seems reasonably priced at $13,500. A pic of the truck can be found as follows: http://www.flickr.com/photos/49338500@N08/sets/
Thanks for any advice or opinions.
