Exclamation D-110 Radiator Screen

Folks,

Anyone out there able to tell me if the expanded metal screen, behind the plastic radiator grille, on a NAS Defender 110 came as galvanized or painted black?

My truck's screen is rusty and needs to be cleaned and recoated. I just want to get it the same as factory.

Cheers,

P.S. Why does the screen have a 2" diam hole in the upper section?

It was originally a silver plate of some sort. Not galvanized and not paint, like a cad plating, but silver in color. Painted in a dullish silver it would be hard to tell from "factory".

The hole is a throw back from the manual release hoods from when that part was designed for earlier 110s.

You can still get them new if you were going for a truly pristine look, or paint works too.

I am looking for a metal grille to replace the plastic one on my 90. I saw pictures of early 110s coming with metal ones, would that fit on my defender? I can't seem to find them on any of the normal parts sites, not that that means anything... Has anyone put a different grille on their NAS 90 other than that grille that has the fog lights in it the middle of it.

I wanted a Stage 1 (109 V8) grill on my 90 (metal mesh) but I would have also needed to buy a surround panel as the NAS ones have holes cut in them where the plastic captive nuts go to screw in the plastic grill. In the end I didn't want to buy more parts or do the bodywork so I gave up on the metal grill idea, but it can be done easily with the right parts.

Here is the Stage 1 grill set up we instaleld on a V8 Series III we did a few years back.

I hope they are better than the stainless one I just saw on a 110 that just came in for service. The mesh part was hot glued into the surround and about 75% of the glue had broken off and the mesh was falling out. A really crappy part.
