I do wish he as staying with an LT230.
So... will it be registered as a LR or a JK.... as he's swapped the frame ?

Either way, interesting to see how it turns out & performs. Getting the frame hot dipped would be the best option after the rework... maybe ?

As long as the frame could handle that grunt.

For a diesel, I wouldn't say that it didn't look fun to drive!

Started to see adverts on TV for the Cummins repower program with these ISF engines.

Anyone hear of a price yet? They also say "first in a series of new engines..." so it really makes me wonder what engine #2 is!

The 2.8 ISF has a bigger brother.
I'm a little concerned about gearing given its max rpm of 3200.
As for price. Nothing yet. Engine cost is just the start of the process.

I am not worried about the 3200RPM---it makes 267 ft-lbs from 160-3200 and that is what i am after for my towing. I can get a brand new NV3550 with gear ratios of
NV3550
First Gear 4.01
Second Gear 2.33
Third Gear 1.39
Fourth Gear 1.00
Fifth Gear 0.78
Reverse 3.57

R380: (slight difference in 1st gear between TDI/V8 but not showing here)
1st: 3.692
2nd: 2.132
3rd: 1.397
4th: 1.00
5th 0.770
Rev: 3.429

So assuming the same gear ratio on the transfer case, everything aligns great as far as my set up requirements.

A grand new box costs $1250 if I went new. Then there are a lot of other costs ranging from cooling to fueling, but still worth it for me as long as the engine is in the $5-6K range which may be hopeful.

Just to add another .2 cents to the thread. I was talking to the Cummings guy at Overland Expo. They had a 2.8 in a Jeep as a test truck. They were hoping to complete the engine certification soon and have this motor as 50 state legal for all light duty trucks model year 99 and older. It will be a plug and play unit with several optional wiring harness available. They have already worked with Advanced adapters and will have a number of different vehicles that it will drop into including rovers up to DII. They are looking at it to be a easy diesel option w/MPG is the mid 30's. They did not have a firm price but said it would probably be similar to the cost of an LS1 crate motor.

For what it's worth

Since the LS1 was discontinued a while ago, I will have to assume in the $5k range as that was what they sold for back in the day... But I know, your guess is as good as mine...

They did say right about now they would start to release that info...

It is 3600, not 3200 Basically the same required gearing as a Rover TDI. An NV3550 or R380 and 1.2 t. case will be perfect.
