That lope and spooling whine is killer!

Personally, I miss using "sick" and "ill" as adjectives. Ahhhhh, the 80's! ;-)

Haha - funny I used "killer" more than "sick" and "ill" in the 80's. Along with "radical" and "bitchin" of course! And I still like to use them all.

So has Cummins cancelled this whole deal or what? I'd rather get this than a 300tdi, but want to do something sooner rather than ... like next month soon.

Any input on how this will drive compared to a 4bt? Looks like it will have similar torque but more hp and weigh less.. oh and cost a lot more!

Talked with Cummins today. They have pushed the R2.8 back till the end of 1st Q. Sometime in April as it currently stands. FYI.

I'm sure someone will make one once there is demand.

IMO, it makes more sense to use an NV3550 though. It will be stronger, you can get a used one cheap and brand new ones are not costly.

ok - then you would need to go from the NV3550 to the LT230, unless there is a drop in alternative for that as well. looks like there is one being made, so its possible at least from the looks of it.

Yes, there are a few adapters for the NV3550/LT230. There are things that need to be tested, of course, like shifter position, engine/gearbox clearances, accessory clearance... But, at first site, it looks okay. The NV3550+plus adapters is close to the same length as a long bellhousing R380. The engine looks to be dimensionally close to a 300TDI.

I'm sure once it is for sale, someone will give it a try and see what is needed. It has to be a lot easier than many other conversions that have been done.

I drove a 4BT/NV4500 last week, and it was quite nice- but it had the harmonic balancer. However, it was not finished and not the best install as the shifter hit the steering wheel and the T-case linkage wasn't yet installed, etc, etc. Also, I have no idea if this new engine is the same physical size, as the 4BT had to have bonnet modifications as well- very high deck height. It did have a nice 4500 to LT230 adaptor...
