coolant leak, but where's the source?

After having to top up the coolant in the expansion tank for the second time, I noticed two puddles of standing water under the hood. The ground is dry, and the rest of the engine bay is also bone dry including the area around the expansion tank. No overheating issues.

the water pump is 10 months and 3000 miles old. One of the screws that holds the water pump to the housing and the alternator tensioner broke. Do you think that is related, and if so, what size is that bolt supposed to be? That was a replacement one after losing the first one, but it keeps working its way out of the water pump housing I guess.

File too large, so I am going to take some smaller pics of the puddles...

In the first picture, it looks like there's a short hose, just above the cap and wire (would be to the back). In a 95 Disco I had, that short hose had a pinhole leak that would spray coolant right where your picture shows. Never figured it out until the hole got bigger.

Good luck.

hmmm. interesting. After I get the water pump bolt locked down with the correct piece, I am going to dry everything off and idle it up to temp with the hood open and see if I can see anything squirting.

OK, I am 99% confident that it is that little hose upon further investigation. Thanks Andrew

You bet. An close match will work short term, but the factory hose is smaller at one end, or larger at the other, depending how you look at it
