I have reviewed the ECR Beach Runner website. I am looking to convert my 5 door 110 to a similar model. I currently have a ribbed roof and would like a roll cage. I either need to get a flat roof or build a custom cage. If i am building a custom cage, i figured i would do it so i can have a soft top. I will have a custom soft top as well. Due to some local laws, i will be keeping the full doors but adding a half door tailgate.
I was curious if anyone has info on fabricating a soft top roll cage and the attachment points to the frame. I figure there would be an external bar by the windshield with the rest running along the tops of the doors and in plane with the body at the rear.
Britpart sells a half door kit for this purpose or you can go with a side swing tailgate.
FWIW Chris @ Badger has/can make you a soft top for your 5 door.
Ron's is sweet.

This is best version Ive seen its a NAS D90 cage that is stretched to fit the 110. Not my rig so I dont have much more info than that. But i do no for fact that it started as a D90 cage.
Ron Peppard here on the forum has a 5 door soft top and he used a NAS 90 cage. The trick part is the hoop that bridges the tops of the B pillars on a 5 door. It has to be stiff enough to keep the pillars from flexing and screwing up the door alignment
I am doing the same thing, I ordered a 5 door soft top from All Wheel Trim. What they don't advertise is the offer a large tube version with or with out roll cage securing to the frame.
I ordered half doors front and second row restored and galvanized from Ash Tree restoration. Just waiting on the shipment to come through
Is this a set for a defender 90 that is modified to suit a 110? I like the overdoor drain channel (over 2 doors on each side). But cant find them anywhere. Do you have a suggestion?
So one thing to note, this is the big tube/hoop set. All wheel trim doesn't advertise it on their site. It very closely resembles the kits from safety devices. Overall it's s very nice kit. More to come....
The rear half doors are pretty rare for a 110. The were sourced, restored and galvanized. I requested all four half doors, the tops, all associated hardware. A swing away rear tail gate, all hinges for all doors and then the top from all wheel trim, that airy only took 4 weeks.
My frame and soft top arrived yesterday from All Wheel Trim. I will begin the process of removing the hardtop and sides. I ordered a rear half door from SP 4X4. Hope to make some headway on Sunday and will post updates.
I am currently pricing out my cage which I settled on P&P but haven't ordered anything yet.
So you went with a full roll cage from All Wheel? Is there an associated part# and how was the import process?
P&P told me I need to source and use my own importer for the paperwork. Not a problem since the guy is local to me and has worked with P&P in the past.
Started my conversion yesterday. Removing the hardtop and side windows was fairly easy. Took about 30 minutes to remove the bolts and lift it off. It took some time to figure out how to assemble the All Wheel Trim frame. The frame components are nice/heavy duty. I had to drill some holes to mount the frame but not too much. They shipped me the wrong cross pieces so I am waiting on the correct ones. The soft top is really nice. I know on another thread someone asked about switching back and forth between soft top and hard top. Realistically, this could be done in a full afternoon with two people.
I have. The quality of the product is top notch. I could not have been any happier. I put it on my 87 Tithonus. I had Kim, owner of All wheel trim, supply the over door channels and the 2 smaller support bars that are over the tub. if you have the original equipment, no worries he can make the top to suit you.
My only complaint is that he is slow. If its F1 racing season, defender work goes at the back of the line as those clients feed him Loads of work.
These look really nice! Looking to convert to soft top on my ‘83. Can anyone share expected costs of the kit from all wheel trim?
