Need help.
Truck was sitting for about a month and the clutch pedal is going straight to the floor.
the clutch should of not be failing because it only has a 1000 miles on it or so.
That was going to be my guess, likely caused by prior Master Cylinder (MC) wear (contaminated fluid flowing downstream and wearing the Slave Cylinder).
But replace the return spring first (as others pointed out), and then take it from there. But if you have fluid leaking from the MC as you also suspect then you'll need to address that asap anyhow.
You mention the clutch was done 1000 miles ago (assuming you mean clutch plate, throwout bearing, fork, etc)...,but what about the hydraulics (MC, SC)?
And *if* you did MC....was the freeplay set correctly at that time?
*Unless* you like doing the MC every 10k miles or so, I strongly suggest the Dorman upgrade route. And yes, definitely replace the SC at the same time.
Took out the old MC, it was pretty gross looking after 28 years, also took out the slave cylinder
Sanding and painting the new pedal box, just waiting on new MC.
Im going with OEM MC because i can rebuild my old one for a few dollars along with the slave cylinder AND the new MC and slave was right under 40 dollars.
Get the Dorman master from SDO. I just did this a couple weeks ago and that's for sure the best route. Jason at SDO is the real deal and such a huge help.
I've not ever had a failure of the OEM master cylinder on my truck. I changed it 10 years and 100000 km ago just for the hell of it. I do flush fluid every few years, as you should.
I think Jason has found a more reliable way to deal with the frequent failure of clutch hydraulics.
