Clutch fan nut on 97' 4.0 larger?

Hi all. I did a search on clutch fan removal and I found lots of good info but I ran into a hitch. On my 97 4.0 the nut is larger than 32mm. On my 110 and 94' D90 the 32mm fits fine on those fan clutch nuts just not on my 97. I tried the BFH and screw driver technique and to no avail except for one scratched up nut. (Worked on my 94' fine) I think on this one I'll have to use the tool? British Pacific told me all years use the same water pump / fan clutch but the one on my 97 is obviously different. Should I buy the tool or find a larger crescent wrench? Thanks for the help!

Yes, from previous research the threading and nut size on the '97 clutch fan IS larger than a 94-95 truck with V-belts. It also turns the other direction as well.

Red face

hehe, yeah I learned the hard way. The nut on the 97' IS bigger. I borrowed the tool from a shop in San Marino. Luckily I did, I gotta get me one of those wrenches. Reason is even after you take it off, you still have to tighten the nut. I'd rather use the wrench rather than tear up the nut when tightening it down. So the clutch fan on the 97' D90 is a lot different AND the thread does come off counter clockwise, unlike the 93 110, 94 & 95 D90.
