Question Cig lighter blowing my USB chargers

Hi - anyone understand the cause of this? I tried three different USB chargers (for a wire going to iphone, etc to charge it) and the cig lighter blew all three of them out. They won't work with any other vehicle now, dead.

Cig lighter still works.

Possible that the cig lighter is wired backwards and the USB chargers aren't protected against reverse voltage.

That must be it! I should know - had the same problem on the extra cig install on the GSA.

Here are my other two instruments/electrical problems:

- Flashers go in fast mode. When hazard switch on, that is the normal pace of flashing.

- Instrument lights are dead - speedo, etc., and the clock and things around it. Except for cig lighter. Every other green light is dead.

I made the same mistake in my ROW 90; figured red and black were fairly universal, or I assumed green was ground... Whatever it was my steering column started smoking after I installed a new 12v socket; I tore it out while I was driving lol

People please learn to use a test light ... Connect one end to the truck body ... Touch the other end on the wire to be tested. If it lights up its hot otherwise it's switched off, fuse blown or ground.

Not so tricky!

Where's the fun in that...next you'll want everyone to use a meter...where does it all end!

do use test light - but have to remember the outer part of the cig lighter should not be the hot part.

any thoughts on the other two problems?

Diagnosis not providing results, possibly due to my lower skill levels on electrical issues...

So bumping these two questions:

- Flashers go in fast mode. When hazard switched on, that is at the normal pace of flashing.

- Instrument lights are dead - speedo, etc., and the clock and things around it. Except for cig lighter. Every other green light is dead after this cigarette lighter incident. Did I blow all of them out maybe during this cig lighter fiasco?

YOU need to troubleshoot it.... First check the fuses.... If those are okay, YOU need a wiring diagram and a meter and find the location of the problem. We can't fix you wiring issue over the computer.

Breaking these out

Flashers:

In normal operation are they fast or slow?

In hazzard operation are they fast or slow?

Instrument lights dead? check the fuses

Cigar lighter should have a green with orange tracer providing switched 12V+ via fuse 19. Ground is black. When dash lights are on a 1.2W lamp that gets power from fuse 12 on a red/orange wire and grounds thru the case to illuminate.

------ Follow up post added January 28th, 2014 03:49 PM ------

Suspect fuse 12. It provides power for all interior dash lamps.

Normal operation of flashers = they are fast.

Hazard switched on = all 4 lights blink at the normal rate.

Lights stock? Fast flashing is burnt out bulb or low wattage bulbs.
