chrome lug nuts for aftermarket wheels

So, has anyone secured a source for chrome lug nuts for aftermarket wheels (that fit the 16mm x1.5mm rover size)?

TIA,

Jim

Jim-

I just ordered sets in two different lengths/outside diameters from Excalibur Wheel
( http://www.excaliburwheel.com ), and should see them at the end of the week. I'll post which ones worked better so that others don't have to buy two sets and figure it out! By the way, the guy at Excalibur was great when I called, and super helpful.

I, too, just jumped on the 4WP el-cheapo alloys deal as I expect you did, along with 315/75-16 BFG MT KM2s, and the wheels and tires were delivered this afternoon. I was afraid that in person the wheels would look a little redneck, but they actually look really cool, so I can't wait to have the hardware to put them on.

In really getting carried away with the whole wheel thing, I also recently bought a set of '98 Disco Boost wheels from a breaker yard out west in case these 4WP ones looked cheesy, and still have the 35" GY MTRs on 15" steels and the stock but powdercoated alloys on 33" Yokohama ATs.

Yes, that's now 20 wheels and 15 tires in my garage or on my D90. I'm ill. Oh yeah, and I deploy to Iraq in a month, and all of it will sit unused for a while. I guess I'll just have to get a Softtop or 110 project "rolling" when I get home to properly employ all the rubber I have sitting around.

Anyway, I'll let you know which lug nuts work best! Sorry to hijack your post.

Nope, these ones at about $37.50 a pop after looking around carefully and discovering an additional discount promo code when I ordered. I'm not sure which ones Jim bought.

Act fast, they only have 227 of them left!

http://www.4wheelparts.com/Wheels/Se...n=PXA8089-6886

Plus, the sales guy hooked me up with a discount on the tires for being a military guy. (4WP usually offers military discounts.) Oh yeah, and mounting, balancing and valve stems for all five was only like $50! (And freight shipping was cheap, too.)

I had those wheels on my tow rig. I paid $340 mounted and balanced with nuts. I though that was a steal! They are nice wheels. I wish my wife would go for them on the new tow rig.

Thanks for the footwork on the lugs Murph. I bought the ones with the black centers and brushed panels around the outside. As Murph said, they ended up being $37 each after discount.

If the lug nuts show this afternoon, I'll get them mounted and get some photos. If they don't show up today, I'll get it done on Mon/Tues after getting back from flying. (I'll be out of town this weekend.)

The promo codes seem to change every few days, usually from 10-15-20% depending on the day, but if you look on the right side of the screen on the home page or on many of the listing pages, it'll be shown there if available. It may or may not apply ot the crap you want to buy. (I just checked, and right now there isn't one showing. Just gve it a day or two.)

The one I used ended on the 24th. I don't plan on mounting the wheels/tires anytime soon, so no go on pictures from here. (will take some time to save the pennies for tires)

Hi Keith,
Yes, and dropped the contacts for glasses. While the hair definitely makes me look younger, do you think the glasses make me look more intellectual?

Hello, team-

After getting back into town and two busy days of flying, I had a chance to get the wheels, tires, etc on this afternoon. Hopefully it'll be of some help to you.

The two types of lugs I bought from Excalibur Wheel were the #3217 "Duplex XL Acorn" and the 1717L "Acorn Blg Long". Both have the requisite 16m x 1.50 thread and acorn taper, and I believe are the only two lug nuts available from Excalibur in a 16m x 1.50. (And of the very few readily available in the US at all that will work.)

The 1717L are 1.72" long, with a 13/16 hex head (21mm works, too), and cost me $0.86 apiece! The 3217 are longer at 2.40" long with a 7/8 hex head, and cost $2.11 each. Now you know why I bought a complete sets of 23 in each size. Both will also require the use of actual 1/2" drive think wall sockets, as tire irons won't fit the wheel lug holes. I just plan to buy an extra deep well socket, extension and driver for my spare kit.

I thought that the longer 3217 were probably going to look dumb and be too long, but after installing them and seeing them on the wheels with center caps, I thought the longer ones looked better and appeared a little more like the stock giant hex head LR ones I'm used to. They also appear a little stouter.

I think the wheels and tires look pretty good, although I wish the center sections were just black vice chrome. In truth, I would have preferred to have the entire wheels satin black, as ProComp makes this wheel style in other bolt patterns, but at $37 a pop as I got them, I'm not sweating it. Eventually, I'll probably take off the centers and just rattle can them black if it really bugs me, which is not likely.

I hope the info and photos help!

Damn Murph, that truck looks sweet. The one question I have is regarding the taper on the lugs. It appears that the shorter ones have a much larger seating surface. Is this an optical illusion, or fact?

Thanks for all your efforts on our behalf,

Jim

Hi, Jim-

Thanks for the compliment.

Yep, you are correct on the lug taper. Both have a similar +/- 60 degree acorn taper, but the smaller lugs do have a larger/wider seating surface. I torqued both types down, drove around a little and then rechecked them OK, and intend to do the same in a week or so. I wondered about that, too, but both seemed fine.
