so what about say a 97 wagon with the 4 seats in the back that face each other.... take it that would be a no no for a 8 week old?

I don't know....i believe everyone knows my stance on this but if i had to carry my infant in a d90 i would probably go for the bench seat.....

the rovers north side facing seat kit specifically says they are not safe for child safety seats, due to lap belts only in a ST.

The bench seat and 3point belts are the way to go.

Glad this topic came up, our first was born last Thur. I have already taken him out and shown him the 90 in the garage, I know that he can't wait for his first ride!

Our 14 month old girl rides up front with me and enjoys the view. She has no problem sleeping even with the rougher ride and it's perfectly safe in my opinion. I have the rear bench seat and would put her there if necessary but I think she's safer up front. I have a soft top and I don't see any reason why it woldn't be just as safe for a properly secured infant.
