check engine light

I was driving my 94 yesterday and after 30 minutes on the road the check engine light came on and about 5 minutes later the truck had no power, I could only go 30 mph. Five minutes later she went back to normal but my check engine light is still on, what should I do?

Time for new oxygen sensors. The no power thing is called "limp home" mode. The ECM thinks there is a major dump of the input sensors, so rather than actually deal with it it shuts down. Apparently it was able to reconnect with whatever sensor failed and was able to operate again in normal fashion. Take it to a place that will read the error codes and it will point out the particulars.

Dig around under the cardboard in front of the passengers feet where the computer is, and there will be a brown box labled "Land rover diagnostic display". When the truck is on, you should be able to see a 2 digit number on there which is the trouble code you need. If it's 44 or 45, those are the O2 sensor codes. Best to do them in pairs if you have to replace them.

Best price for oxygen sensors are Standard Motor Products # SG130, right now rock auto has them listed at $45 each.

If the number is something else, let us know and we can dig further.

I just located the box but I don't see anything displayed, does anybody have a picture of where I would see the display? colshlby65@aol.com

The check engine light went away, do I have to wait for it to come back before I can check the diagnostic box for a code? Right now I don't see any codes.

Correct, it will only display the code when the check engine light is active. It doesn't have a long term memory.
