CEL on, doing something weird.

My 97 D90 has been doing something strange the last few days. It starts and idles fine, I'll let it run to warm up, but once I hit the gas it sputters and dies. Then starts right up and runs like it should. The CEL came on after this started happening giving a P0430(Catalyst Efficiency Low Fault bank B). I'm not sure what that means. Could this be the culprit?

Could it possibly be the Idle Air control/stepper motor?

I don't know much about the 97's but doubt very much the ECU is failing.

The AICV isn't generally involved when running ... It controls idle ... When you are pressing the gas you aren't idling.

That's the only code?

Are you able to video the event and post here? Might give a few clues.

The way he describes how it runs fine after starting the second time has me thinking the ECU could be playing head games.

I drive a 97 and I swear my ECU is possessed. I get odd little annoying things happen from time to time.

I need to stop being lazy and find a good spare to test my theory.
