CD Player

I have a radio with CD player that I have been planning to install. I noticed that the instructions say it should not be slanted more than 15 degrees. I want to put it in the cubby box's radio bay, which looks close to 45 degrees and was probably designed with tape players in mind. Anybody have experience with CD players mounted in the cubby?

They work fine. Old Range Rovers had the same issue.

Charles (Galpin) and I looked into this and I spoke with the owner of a reputable car audio shop in my area and he said that technically braking the 15 degree mark will make them more prone to skipping but also said they have been installing stereos in Tuffy's for years and have had very little complaints. Most complaints seemed to come from folks who's unit would skip while driving through a rock garden or something similar.

Thanks! Looks like I won't have the tear out any of the remaining hairs trying to figure out a suitable alternative.

For a second there I read it as, "I had my Sony explode...." Not what I wanted to hear.

Hey! I'm out in the sticks here, not in Megalopolis. At least I have graduated from 78 RPM records. (When I was a kid in Texas we used to pick thorns off the cactus when we ran out of phonograph needles.)

An adapter (line out) from your iphone is all yez need. Run that to a massive amp and bob's your uncle. Alternately you can do the same thing with a laptop, which if wi fi enabled will also give you web, nav, blah blah blah...only squares use CDs or head units any more.

Can I say wow to this?! It never occured to me... I was gonna get a crazy head unit... GPS, DVD blah blah blah.. but I rather spend that $ now on better speakers, a sub and a great AMP, and then connect directly to my iPhone which was going to be the main source of music anyways.

My uncle Bob says Hi.

I upgraded/installed my head unit to the newest Pioneer DEH-P5200HD. It has both AUX inputs for normal MP3 players, as well as a USB port that both charges and integrates directly with my iPhone and iPods for music, and also plays Pandora and other music apps I have on them. Added bonus of Droid and Blackberry (and maybe more phones) integration through the USB for music which I found out by accident when one of my friends had to charge his phones while driving. I was surprised as it only advertises full integration with Apple products. Also has iTunes tagging when listening to the radio. Highly recommend this head unit.

Doesn't skip when I play my iPhone's music.
