Carb conversion questions

I want to convert my 88 D90 with a 3.5L to a single carb set up. I have read the edelbrock 1404 carb and 215 intake manifold. Will a 1405 or 1406 work? These are on eBay for less. What about Holly and other brands, wii they fit the manifold?

Is this a DIY job for someone with basic mechanical skills? I can change brake pads, redo door guts, change a starter, alternator, etc. No overhaul experience. If I take to a shop, how many hours job is this?

Thanks in advance !

In any case you'll need the calibration kit and the needle valve springs for off-road use.
Yes, fairly easy but the fuel pump is high pressure, so you'll also need to get a return type fuel pressure regulator. Going along with that you might also wish to invest in a inlet with a hole for a gauge.

I did it with a buddy over a weekend. Its not that complicated but can be a bit frustrating if you don't have everything you need. including the correct thermostat housing, PCV setup, and throttle linkage.

The valley pan can be an annoyance as well, especially if you have PCV issues.

We installed a edlebrock manifold and carb on a 3.5. The dual carb set up fuel feed is not high pressure. The accelerator cable, etc all worked. The upper radiator hose and water outlet elbow will be different. Some where on here is a thread where I list the hose part numbers I used. The most difficult part of the job is replacing the valley pan gasket and thats not difficult @ all

Oh yeah if yur going from the dual SUs to a single 4 barrel, no fuel pump issues. If yer going from EFI to carb, then yes you need regulator.
