I am going to find out tomorrow. Pictures and/or medical records to come.

Wear a back-brace or weight belt.

Ron

I've lifted the 4.0/4.6 crate motors by myself (in the wooden crate) n it wasn't too bad, a bit heavy yes but at least it was in a box. With the ancilliaries I would imagine it would be somewhat awkward but anything is possible. Remember that tv show "thats incredible" :D

I would recommend lying on the ground under the motor and if you push real hard the motor will fly right out of the engine bay and land on your workbench!!

Ron why don't you give me a call to help out sometime. My lifestyle is very similar to Neil's. Young single guy with strippers each night. I have nothing to do!

I am currently accepting volunteer rover mechanics. Free room, board, beer and bourbon.

BTW I do have a plan .... I got the motor out of the SI ok and that weighed 400lbs.

Rent or borrow an engine hoist. Don't forget an engine stand.

I like where you're head's at!

Ron, seriously, do yourself a favor and get an engine hoist or a chain-fall that you can hang from your garage. You should be able to find either very inexpensively...certainly a lot less than the medical bills if something goes wrong.

I have good health insurance. I only have engineered 2x4 rafters so I am not sure they would support the engine. I do have a rope hoist that is rated for 1000lbs.

hernia is hereditary so if ya gots dat free from ur lineage ur good to go! Apparently Ron is determined to do this alone so any advice offered here will certainly be ignored with good intentions ^_^

I would think the rafters and the 1000 lb hoist are a better choice than you solo. Unless your like 6ft 10in and 350lb and a serious weight lifter - but wait, then you would know better :} . Consider the fact that this will not be a dead lift - you will have to extend out over the engine - lift it up and then over the frame. My prayers are with you.
