Can a blocked heater core cause overheating (300TDI)?

Just curious if this is a scenario which could happen... if that bypass can't flow freely could things get too hot?

don't think so. plenty of challenge trucks don't even have heaters, and they're worked HARD.

check your head and/or gasket. tdi's are renowned for warped heads. i used one of those "sniff" testers to check for hydrocarbons (exhaust gas) in the coolant but it came back AOK, but the head still needed a skim.

overheating stopped then.

My experience is that the cooling circuit at the back cylinder head, returning to the water pump, needs to be working. Or it can cause hot spots and overtempuratures. Leading to headgasket failure. Then worse. So a blocked heater core is not a good thing, in my opinion.
legend in my own mind
