Camshaft change 3.9 V8 95 D90

Recently, I have read several articles on the Rover V8 cam and how it is a mild grind and of weak construction that, as one article read, wears down into particulate that ends up embeded in the bearings causing bearing issues. Anyway, I am interested in getting more perfomance (a little anyway) by changing the camshaft out. Crane offers several, and I am seriously considering thier 2nd "performance" camshaft. If memory serves me correctly, it is 268/274 (int/ex) at 0 lift duration. The "reccomended" rpm range is 1800 to 4800. I figured this would provide a small bump in torque and I have been very pleased with Crane Cam's products I have used in several other vehicles. Any one with any experience with rover cam changes and specifically this camshaft? Any suggestion, guidance or hysterical observations are greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Sounds familiar... This is a Crane # that works nicely, Crane # 900571 and use Rhodes # 896-8 lifters... This should give you a warm feeling in you seat without making your computor angry!

Mike Green, founder of gave me the same diagnosis on my '93 3.9. He said the cam change will definitely make a world of difference. Haven't done it yet, though. You might contact him for recommendations, or post on forum -- he answers there most frequently. BTW, Mike's dad built the first V8 Land Rover -- it's quite a story, see his site.
