Calculating Re-gears

After much geekery and nerd-dom, and way too much time tweaking, I have come up with Numbers spreadsheet that you can use to plug in your original tire size, transfer case, transmission, and R/P ratios into, in order to compare multiple setups and how it will affect your highway and crawl speeds, and how much your speedometer will be off.

Nooner's Gear Ratio Calculator (Dropbox link)

Recommend saving it to your computer and then working on it.

The file format is only in Numbers for now (sorry PC users), and I am on vacation, so it will be a little while before I can tweak it for Excel use...the drop down menus may not work for now if you try and open it in excel.

Speaking of drop down: anything in a yellow field may be changed...if you change something that is not in a yellow field, well... good luck with that.

The reason I created this was because although the Ashcroft website has a very good calculator, I found I already needed to have a decent base of knowledge to start using it and I wanted to "dumb it down"... I also wanted to be able to compare multiple setups simulaneously...

As far as drop down menus go, I included what I consider the most popular transmission ratios based on TeriAnn's Expedition Land Rover site website. I included typical LT230 ratios; stock, some of Dave Ashcroft's optional High TC ratios and some of Bill Davis' GBR LowTC ratios. R/P ratios are a combination of stock, Ashcroft, and GBR. I included Roverdrive as an option as well as Ashcroft Underdrive. As far as tire sizes, there are many many many different options, so I included basic diameters.

If anyone would like to see an option they really have to have, let me know and I'll add it in when I get the chance.

Let me know if you have any questions! I'm sure they will be many.
... And the chance of this working the first time off the bat is probably 15%

Example of what it would look like if you started out with a stock D90 with LT77S, LT230, and 32" tires and were looking at R380 vs GM 6L80e options with different GBR/Ashcroft gearing.

Yellow squares are the drop down options... speedo errors and all efficiency deltas are based on comparison with the far left column.

Changes to the Speedo cells, MPH cells, or RPM cells propagate across all columns so you have a direct comparison. Driveline and tire size selections only affect that particular configuration.

This is the updated file now:

aaaand an Excel version

GEAR RATIO CALCULATOR - EXCEL VERSION -- that's the dropbox link

I'm also attaching a zipped version of the file directly, since I finally figured out how to do that and I'm finally back home on my computer.

There you go... if anyone cares... I suppose most people who get this much into the weeds are going to want to make their own spreadsheet anyway.

I added places where you can input custom values for any of the fields instead of being stuck with the ones I though of.

I locked all the cells down except the ones you are supposed to change, but if you want to try your own hand at it, you can use the password (defendersource) and make it whatever you like.

Hope someone finds it useful.
Cheers
Ryan

THANK YOU!!! I appreciate all your work.

I'll download and give it a try when I get home in a few days.

CBD try this one..it's the Numbers version zipped. If you don't have Numbers on your computer you should still be able to use it if you log into iCloud.

I don't have a google sheets version yet, I hadn't thought about that. If this doesn't work for you, PM me and I'll gen up a Google sheets version for you and post it here.

Cheers

Thanks for the offer, but I'd just be playing with the spreadsheet and wasting your time.
Plus, it would be for a Series 2a trans/t-case and a Mercedes turbo diesel. Not really a D90 item.
I enjoy using spreadsheets for simple problems and multiple possibilities and I thought you did an exceptionally well thought out job on this.

Let's see the IIA project. At least one inquiring mind wants to know!

Thanks Kenji for pointing out a bug in the excel version... custom values should work now, and the Ashcroft 4.37 ratio had an extra decimal that buggered everything up.

version 2.0 attached
