Busted Cat & overheating

I have had a slight overheating problem lately and was wondering if my busted converter may have something to do with it. Symptoms are; movement of the gauge at highway speed on warm days. Around town and on the trail are fine. I've changed the thermostat, checked the fan clutch and washed out the radiator. Thanks,

I wonder, it may make sense to install pyrometers on the cats similar to how you do to monitor the EGT (Exhaust Gas Temperature) on a TDI to avoid overheating damage. I always feel that the more quantitative measurements you have in real-time the easier it is to see if something changes over time which is also the one really nice thing about a digital temperature gauge.
