bulkhead rubber panel

Regarding the thick rubber transmission and interior lower bulkhead panel covers (on ST only?):

Has anyone dispensed with them completely? I find them with their foam backing to be excellent moisture traps, so thinking of stripping them out. How's the NVH without them?
Any substitutes or improved solutions out there?

It is louder without them, especially transmission and T-case whine. It is a defender so whatever. No worse (and much better) than my lotus when it had the racing exhaust. There are various replacements available. Exmoor trim. Wright Offroad etc.

Anyone got experience and can compare the Exmoor v Wright mats?

the heavy sound deadening mat sold by Exmoor is made by Drew Wright. He is under contract and only makes the mats for MOD and Exmoor.
