Question Body Panel Gaskets

Anyone out there have a good idea on what to use for body panel gaskets? I just repainted all the hardware on my tailgate and my spare tire carrier. I want to put gaskets between the hardware and the tailgate/body.

I've been using some EPDM rubber sheet that I bought through Mcmaster-Carr -

It comes in a variety of thicknesses and durometers - it holds up well to exposure and UV

I bought a small sheet to make gaskets for my snorkel and roof ladder - works real well.
