Body color roof

I need some and I hope this is not a stupid question. I'm about to buy a 1997 Defender 90 wagon but one thing I noticed is the roof is not white it is the same as the body color. Was this an option or is this a sign that the car was painted.

Or...the roof was just painted...I know of at least one SW that had it's roof painted to match the body. Check the bulkhead at the back of the engine- might show if it was a different color previously.

Thanks for the info, I kinda suspected that. Since I was suspicious I looked for color differences and overspay but didn't see any. It does look good, but it makes me nervous and the price seemed to good to be true.

copley motors had one back a few months ago, It was all Conniston Green. Looked different. I too have never seen color matched roofs, only the Euro market.

Well I went back and looked at it again, and I think I'm going to take a chance. It just doesn't look like it was repainted. It has 85,000 miles and looks likes its in really good shape. I'm getting it for less then $25K and the dealer will give me a 2 month or 2k guarantee. Its a second car and I know I'm already buying a money pit. So whats the worst that can happen. Thanks for all your help I'm sure I'll be asking alot more questions once I get it home.

If it is a true NAS D90 the top has either been repainted or replaced.
Check the vin HERE to see what the original color of the vehicle was.
It's possible the vin may have been switched from a totaled NAS D90 to an imported vehicle or a rebuilt one.

Good luck,

Not true, I have seen a similar NAS station wagon with the body color roof.

Nothing is impossible with rover. Ever see an Epsom Green NAS 97 SW? How about Rioja Red?

What's not true Ron? That all NAS D90's came with white tops? I suppose it's possible.
If some did come with factory painted body colored tops I stand corrected. I've never seen one, but I haven't seen every one that was sold here either.
Tell us more about the ones you refer to. Any idea how they came about? Do you know if they were special ordered or maybe painted by the dealerships?

Yeah I suppose. I've been to special vehicles and seen the Fugly-ass Range Rovers (called "Autobiography" if I recall) custom made for the stupid-rich Arab princes. Our tour guide noticed my visceral reaction and made the comment that if you want it and have enough $$$, you can order anything you want even if it is as tacky as a purple Range Rover with pink interior.
As for Epsom green and Rioja, no I've never seen those either. What's the story?

Thanks,

There is a green wagon in Los Angeles with a matching roof, I have seen it around a few times. I also saw one in colorado at a ski resort parked in a hotels underground garage, it was a 95' with soft top doors and sliding windows.

I'm pretty sure it had the round tailights and definitly manual tranny, but it was 2 years ago that I saw it, hard to remember.
One day I'll stop the guy in LA and ask him about his truck; however, I don't think he is an enthusaist.

It is completely possible it is a genuine NAS truck and has a factory body colored roof. I have seen such a truck.

There was one epsom green 97 D90 SW and one rioja red 97 D90 SW, what I REALLY want is either the laser red or java green 94 D90. There is also an arizona blue 94 D90 (on ECR's website) and an orange 94 D90 (Gil's).

I have a 94 POE, which is rare enough but I want a one of a kind.

Wow, so they are out there, I'll keep an eye out. They must be hidden away in garages.
Weren't the odd-colored '94's called "Hella Editions" as some sort of promotion?

*Sidenote - I saw a Black SW parked in downtown Denver recently. Black roof too.

The Black SW is not factory (caveat--at least to my knowledge)

Yes the 94s were for a hella photo shoot hence "hella edition" though someone coined that term it was not sold factory that way.
