body capping on rear tub

Has anyone replaced the body capping along the top of the rear tub, just rivets or is it welded on(I haven't looked closely at it yet)?. Any leads on best places to get capping kits(I'll check with RDS,ect) would be appreciated as well. Thanks for the help.

Tis

They are not welded on, I read an article in LRM or LRO last year and they replaced the capping's and it seemed real easy, I think you just drill out the rivets holing it on. The mag recommended replacing it with Galvanized capping. I think the hard part on a NAs 90 is dealing with the Roll Cage.

I replaced mine when the pickup top was installed. It was just a matter of removing the cage and the rivets.

Make sure you use the proper rivets when you install the new one, they are kind of an odd size and I used some standard ones that looked close but they ended up rattling and not fitting proper so I had to drill and replace them.

Did you do anything to isolate the galvy capping from the aluminum? Seems you would get the classic galvanic reaction over time. right?

On my truck there was no sealant between the capping and body. Some got sealant, some didn't. All you really need to do is put a good coat of paint on the body where the capping covers, and the back of the capping.
