They are not welded on, I read an article in LRM or LRO last year and they replaced the capping's and it seemed real easy, I think you just drill out the rivets holing it on. The mag recommended replacing it with Galvanized capping. I think the hard part on a NAs 90 is dealing with the Roll Cage.
