Blower - heat

How do you know if your blower is done?

Turn on fan, nothing happens. All fuses are good. Remove vent cover from wing and nothing blocking the fan. Fan spins freely but when I spin it, it sounds like it is full of water.

Ideas?

Check the ground. Failing that, run power directly to it to see if it spins. If that does not work, then replace it.

Where is the ground and by switch do you mean the one in the truck? I took apart dash and the switch looked like the contacts were clean.

Isn't the fan part of the heater box?

of course the fan is part of the heater box. You can unplug the heater box and run 12v and a ground to the plug and determine if the motor is the problem. I do that before taking the dash apart, that's how we do it on the East coast.

Will try that? Can I assume the water sound when spinning is not normal.

Anyone have a picture of how to hook up direct power?

I can't figure it out and Dougie Fresh isn't returning my texts.

On a normal Defender... There are two wires coming from the motor that go to a two wire plug. One wire is green and the other purple. Purple positive, green negative. That connects into the heater resistor pack and you get a three prong connector. Purple/Green +12V, the other two go to ground for the two different speeds.

Thanks for the pic. I went and poked around a bit. The issue turns out the switch in the truck wasn't plugged in.

I'm a dope.

Another way to look at it is it didn't cost anything to fix!
