Blinking brake warning light

While going down hill on rough (really rough) roads the brake warning light (one the dash) blinks and some times stays solid. Brake fluid level is fine. I don;t think the brake lines are streatching but ordered extended steels to be sure... anything else to check... mabyle a loose wire. I checked on the resivior and all looks AOK... because it is the brakes this makes me paranoid.

Thanks all

Might want to check the wire on the handbrake. Mine was chaffed and that happened. Just taped it up and no more issues.

My Tdi is doing the same thing. I havent had a chance to trouble shoot it, much less figure it out. Both that light and the P-brake light have always come on when I set the parking brake though, so they are somehow related.

This is also on a tdi... My '!' light does not come on when I set the parking brake... jsut the park brake light... Interesting you are having the same problem Jim. Is it also happening to you only on rough roads or in normal driving?

its the fluid level sensor in the brake master cylinder, either fluid level is a bit low, if not try rotating the cap slightly so the so the sensor is rotated in the reservoir.

Good thought on rotating the sensor. I checked the wiring and I can find a thing wrong. Fluid level is full... really full.

noah- I don't know if that is such a good idea

I am having the same problem. Mine seems to be fluid level b/c it comes on mostly when turning. But level is full.

I had the exact same problem. My brake fluid was full, but when I topped it off anyways, my problem disappeared.

I think Ian was correct with the initial statment of rotating the cap so that the sensor is in a different place and topping off. If fill it really full and I changed the orientation of my sensor to the side... problem is no more.
thanks

Ditto. I topped it off and rotated the sensor. No more blinking light.
