Black Plastic Front Vent Handle

I broke off the litte black vent handle in front that says "vent"

I guess I was pulling a little hard or it was brittle.

My question is can you purchase a replacement platic piece or do I need to buy an entire metal piece that goes into the dash and connects to the outer vent?

If you have to replace the entire unit instead of the plastic piece......has anyone done it and have pointers?
If you just replace the plastic piece what was invloved in getting it to stay on the metal prod?

Thanks in advance!

Why not try to glue it back in place? Try some epoxy and it should work. After all, it isn't put under that much force when in use.

Leave it to LR to screw up yet another simple piece!

Lightbulb

I had the same problem. I broke that handle before I even got my D90 home after purchase...

I used an epoxy superglue type of mix from the hardware store. Anything that is a two part mix is certainly going to do the job (see pic). Mine has been rock solid for 2 years now. Just watch the overflow when you piece it together because the epoxy doesnt clean up very well. I used a little black electric tape to secure it in place, then removed the tape afterwards without any problems.

You'll be much happier with this fix then having to remove all the dash pieces to do a complete replacement.

Good luck.

Agreed...

Now has anyone tried fixing a loose control? You know, it doesn't stay open in place and is easily closed by any air flow. I'm tired of keeping mine in place with a pen!

Can someone confirm: Does an NAS Defender and a Series III use the same bulkhead vent handle assembly?
(I think so, but have been wrong before, so...)
