Best source of complete NTO Puma front doors?

All:

Where can I find a pair of Puma front doors? The doors on my '85 are shot- lots of rust on the frames, they rattle & leak air terribly. Plus the door cards are shot & I've never liked the lift-up style handles. I like the fact that the Puma doors have treated frames and I'm reassured they will fit my Ninety. Prefer white with black cards.

Nothing in the FS ads, and nobody bothers looking in the wanted section. I have been watching eBay but apparently most sellers don't know the difference between 'Discovery' & 'Defender'!

Any ideas?

Thanks in advance.

Paul.

I think Scott [CDN38] could help you out. He intermittently brings containers over from the UK. I could RURR it down and keep those edges true.

I know this doesn't help at all but time was that Puma doors were going for $1000 a PAIR on fleaBay US. Like just 3-4 years back. There were loads and then suddenly, boom, gone.

Safari HP has them in stock. I think they are about $2500 plus shipping for a pair of fronts

I have some. Good price, only worried about shipping. I am too lazy to ship them in a set of two. A lot of work to pack them so you they won't get damaged. Have them packed in a frame of six doors ( 3 sets). So take 3 sets and sell 2 or pick up in MI

All:

Despite being from there, I'm leery about buying from the UK. The farther the distance, the higher the likelihood of damage, and if the deal goes south, I won't be there until next September to go bang on someone's door.

I've responded to the thread listing them for sale here- thanks for that.

Price? This might work if I can find some other guys on the west coast to take the other sets.

Thanks,

Paul.

Only have white ones, $ 900 per door, including window, trim, door handle, etc.
you might want to switch the key lock though as I don't have keys.

Haha! As my contractor used to say ", we'll fix this problem no matter what it costs you." ;-)

But, if someone were to make them beluga by the time I picked them up and they weren't more than 1/3 of the price for all 6 shipped, then that would be something.

Wrap them up in several layers of cardboard and bubble wrap, place them in a mailing cage, fill any spaces with cardboard.

Why are they always white? Coming from MDT or other outfitters?

Usually the trucks that are converted to armoured doors / police / military conversions are white trucks to start. This is where many of the NTO parts come from. JLR does not produce the vehicles all "done out. There are independent companies that do the conversions on contract to whatever you want. Stuff they take off is new... and ends up somewhere.

You need more than cardboard.

High impact foam and a full wood frame surrounding the entire door skin. The packaging could easily double the weight of each door.

So if you are from the UK than do you go back often? I have shipped lots of parts as luggage while flying to and from the UK. I have brought doors back with me to the States, though I removed glass and all the trim. I have never been charged extra for it either. I just factor it into my luggage allowance and use clothes to pad out the packaging. Plus there is a lot less handling or risk of damage than normal shipping. They get loaded/unloaded by hand because they are bigger and to irregular shaped for the conveyors. Best part about flying with small children is that their clothes take up less room so allows more room for parts. Even if you did get charged for it as luggage it would still be cheaper and safer.
