Update:

Took her for a quick run on the freeway this morning. Oil light went out shortly after starting. Ran fine, except it shuddered & shook like crazy at ~50mph (much smoother around 70). I will get the wheels checked for balance next week.

Brought it back, drained the oil, pulled the sump cover. Oil pickup pipe was secure, and the mesh was clean;

Took the opportunity to clean up the sump cover & give it a coat of paint (Wal Mart hi-temp barbecue paint, which I used to use on Porsche exhaust tips);

I filled the filter (Napa gold 1452) and filler her up with Valvoline VR1 20W50 racing oil.

I will drive her to the office a few times this week & see if the light comes back on, but right now unless the sensor/wire is bad, I'm stumped. As was mentioned, it could have been the oil I was using.

I plan to drive her to Portland in a couple of weeks to get some work done by Doug Shipman. We'll see if she makes the 4.5 hour trip!

Thanks again for all the help.

Paul.

Paul,

Re: vibes at 50mph.

Check the torque on the suspension bolts and make sure no bushings are shot, especially the panhard rod bushes.

I like the Mahle OC261, good German made (last time I ordered) filter at a decent price from AB, Trevor and others.

As far as oil, i'd consider M1 15w-50 if you are going thicker, gets you the thicker viscosity plus better cool weather pumping than a conventional 20w-50. The V1 syn may also be a good choice.

Everything seems tight! I will get the wheel balance checked shortly to eliminate that being a factor.

Mahle make great filters, I always used them on my Porsches. I just couldn't get one in time. I'll see if there is any difference with the different oil in her- drove it to work today & no oil light!

Update on the 50mph shimmy:

One of the front wheels had lost its weights. They fixed it but it's still not as smooth as I had hoped.

I'll see what Doug Shipman has to say when I drop her off on Friday...
