Got you message, Jay. I'm around but it's dark now. How about trying to get together next Saturday? I see your posts all over the place- looks like you're adding all kinds of stuff to your 90; cant wait to see it.

Pics and thread from years ago

Good MLK day to everyone. There was a thread on here about how to mount that cobra setup years ago. I actually used it and ran everything in the cubby box. I drilled a hole in teh side of the box and can screw in my cobra straight into it without much hassle. Pretty coll how it all worked out.

I think I'm going to get the Cobra bluetooth radio you guys recommended here.

Can I hook that up to external speakers or is it only for use with the built in speaker on the cb?

I actually mounted my cobra all in one (I think its the 75) in my cubby box but I used the forum post from something like 6 years ago which recommended pulling the drink holder and mouning the screw in connection on the side of the cubby box. Pretty cool and looks factory.

Ham radio is worth the two or three hours of studying that it takes to pass the exam. If have an emergency out in the middle of nowhere in Southern Utah, a CB is probably not going to do a damned thing for you. With a 60W 2m ham radio and a decent antenna, however, you will almost assuredly be able to hit a repeater and find someone who can assist you.

Everyone I roll with has a ham license so lack of a CB doesn't limit me.

Where do you mount your antenna where it does not get ripped off while running in the woods / off road?

In my mind - a good antenna sticks up high and clear - but then that becomes an easy target to limbs and such. (also, I have a soft top)

On the ham side, there is the Diamond Antenna K9000LRM motorized antenna mount that folds down flat at the press of a switch. It can accommodate antennas up to 40" long and as heavy 1 lb. It might be able to accommodate your CB antenna, depending on what you are using.
