Two optima yellows here. Stay away from reds, they are different animals.

If your run your batteries in series like that, don't you have to switch the charging terminals regularly if your not running a dual charger type system? I'd like to figure out a way to add two batteries to my D90 inexpensively. Thanks

Not that I am aware of. It acts like one big battery and both batteries charge at the same time. I have been running dual batteries like this for years and never had to switch anything.
It is essentially one big battery. They problem is that if you run it all the way down, then you don't have a back up. I did it this way because I wanted to have plenty of juice to run an Engle for a full day or more with the car off, and still be able to crank up. I wasn't sure if I could accomplish this on one battery alone. I just have to watch it and not let it run for longer than two or three days (which would never happen anyway since it would only be 1 night before cranking up and driving again). I plan on adding a digital voltmeter like ECR did on the dormobile project as soon as I find out who makes a nice compact unit.
