Belts - date of manufacture

I ordered all new belts for my truck since my power steering belt is getting frayed, and the truck sounds like a washing machine. They came today and I noticed the alternator belt has 1997 on it. Could rovers north have this belt laying around for 14 years or am I reading when it was made wrong? Also would it matter if it really is that old?

Yup, from 1997.

Probably a dealer returned it after having it in stock since then and land rover sold it to RN.
