battery issues

Just wondering if I can get some possible help.

I have upgraded the electrical system as follows - 2 optima yellow tops, a wrangler NW dual battery set up - followed the directions and have had issues with the batteries not holding a charge.

My turn signals are also now not working.

I am able to jump start it and drive - however if it is parked over night - no start.

Any thoughts?

Thanks.

Well the first thing you need to do is check the voltage on the battery while it's running. You should be getting somewhere between 13-14Vdc. If you're getting less, then either your alternator is going bad or the alternator is not connected to the batteries. If this is the case your next step is to check the voltage right at the alternator and see what it is there.

If the voltage checked out ok at the batteries while running then you have a short somewhere. The best way to trace a short is to do the following.
1. Remove the negative battery cable from the battery
2. Put an ampmeter inbetween the negative battery cable and the battery post.

With the ignition off you should see a reading on the ampmeter. Now start pulling fuses one by one untill the reading on the ampmeter drops off. At that point you'll know which circuit is causing the short and you can trouble shoot further. Let me know if you have any questions.
