Bar's Stop Leak

Three months ago I replaced the head gaskets, and recorred the radiator on the D110. Today I noticed a coolent leak from the rear. The leak does not appear to be from the head, but maybe between the transmission and the motor, behind the starter. Last month I removed the heater core because it was leaking (AC works now!). The temp per infrared gun says 185 at the temp sender.

I was wondering what everyone thought about using Bar's Stop Leak to cure this. I hear only mixed reviews of this stuff. I think a small does would do the trick without any ill effects.

Uh oh. Sounds like a freeze plug might have gone out on you. And not in a good spot either, since you can't access it without pulling either the engine or the transmission. The stop-leak may or may not work, depending on how bad the leak is. But worth a try, as opposed to the other solution.

Fill Tower Cap

I traced the leak to the fill tower cap. I must have over tightened it when I bypassed the heater core. Luckily I always keep a spare one.
Thanks Hans, that would have been my next check...

None the less, this may be a good discussion on whether to us Bar's Stop Leak for future reference.

I have used ceramic block sealer in the past on 4.0 L disco that had porous block. It worked for a while but eventually the motor had to come out.

So I guess it depends on what the issue is. It would be worth keeping a can of it in the boot in case you are out on the trail and need a short term fix.
