Bare Metal D90?

I'm considering a big project over the winter to get my baby ready for next season. I've seen a couple of Series stripped, and left, bare metal. Can a D90 be left bare metal? Thoughts?

Thank you and have a very Merry Christmas!

I hope there isn't some good reason not to, because I like the look of the Series I saw.

Also, love the ISIS quote. My D90 is actually named Infidel.

No difference between doing this and the old American Airlines livery. Lots of polishing and upkeep but there is no reason why you couldn't.

Thanks for getting back so quickly on this. If I go ahead with it, I'll post pictures. Also, did you get your hands on an MRAP, or is that just a picture?

I'd wait for more replies & do some Googling first. Maybe ask your local Airstream service supervisor why they use paint and/or clearcoat for their bare metal look?

You would want to have all the steel parts galvanized and then it would be good.

It would not be for someone that want shiny and polished.

Dont know if just perception. Most of the paint on my 109 was stripped off and I never got around to painting it. In the summer I have actually gone around to other guys trucks and felt different sides and would say that my unpainted parts of the truck felt hotter then the other trucks painted parts. Lol, also wicked glares.

Yeah, Willey's 90 was a pos.
A bare truck could be done a lot nicer than that example...

This 90 was once used as a display piece for Land Rover. No paint, only polished aluminum. The last time I saw it was in 2001 at the Motor Heritage Centre. I think it may have been part of the Dunsfold Collection at one point as well. Note that there are no dimples on the rear quarter panels. This is because the panels were glued together.

Ive helped do more than a few of these, all on series trucks. They look otherworldly in person and on the road! All bulkheads were galvanised and we used scotch brite for the finnish! It comes out just right!! To touch up just scotch bright it. Polish is too much and difficult to keep up unless its clear coated and just too much bling for lack of a better word and it shaws all fkaws regardless of how minor! Scotch bright actually hides a lot of tye smaller flaws! ! Good luck. .......
