And to explain the shaft problem... Stock late model 24 spline shafts (Disco, D90, RRC) are wasted to close to the same diameter as the older 10 spline shafts. Testing has shown them to fail at around the same torque. so putting in stock 24 spline shafts give little to no strength increase. You need to change to aftermarket shafts to get a benefit.
The "HD" axles used in early V8 90 rears and some MOD trucks have 24 spline shafts that are much stronger. They only have slight wasting and are probably made with better materials. My math gives a 30% strength increase from the difference in diameter alone. The 24 spline shafts used in the Salisbury rears are similar.
