axle ratios: 94 D-90 to 94 Disco

The swivel ball on my left front got whacked and I need to replace it...fast. Can't find just that part (economically), but I did find a whole axle from a '94 Disco. Is that a clean swap? Axle ratios correct, or were different ones available at the time?

Thanks and have a MERRY CHRISTMAS!!!
Pete

It is a clean swap, but the brakes on a Disco are different. The 90's have a vented front rotor and wider calipers. The track rods are slightly different too. The axle are 24 spine and the diff gearing is the same 3.54.

Why don't you just swap the swivel ball and etc? If you are going to buy a disco axle, pick up one that is 97 or newer to get the black swivel balls, they have a coating that are less prone to leaking and pitting.

I'd love to get one from a '97, but I can't find one near me (WI) that I can get quickly. I'm all ears if you have a source though! I'm kinda new to this, so I'm sure you guys know more sources than I do. I tried RDS, Safari Rover and a couple other places w/o any luck. Stephen at Safari Rover has been a great help with lots of other parts and advice though. He has an okay one but fast shipping will kill me.

My rotors and calipers are good and the track bar was replaced so I'm assuming I can just swap out old to new and I'll be okay?

Thanks,
Pete

you can use it but the swivel is actually different. IT uses different swivel pins due to the anti lock brakes.

Well, it seems my rush is no longer a rush (thankfully), and I can slow down the acquisition of this swivel. Like I said, it got whacked and bent the swivel and bottom pin, and broke that pin's bushing.

Not sure yet how much farther the damage goes. I suppose a whole new axle assy would be the safe way to go if i can find one. That way, what's not damaged will become a spare. I'll widen the search radius and make some more calls on Monday, but it sounds like any NAS D90 axle will work, or a mid 93-95 RRC, or 94 to preferably a '97 Disco. Does that sound correct?

George (Rovers Down South) had a pair of D90 axles for sale. Not sure if he still has them.

I called him earlier in the week, but no dice. I was in Denver (Thornton, actually) last month picking up a '74 Bronco for my daughter to drive to high school. Drove it back to WI w/ her. Beautiful weather, great adventure.
