as long as we're talking about oil cooler lines...

So I read with interest all the recommendations to change the oil cooler lines, some with illustrations. What I'd like to know is whether the problem is the proximity to the exhaust manifold heat that causes the lines to fail...or the lines WILL fail and the proximity to the exhaust heat causes the fire?
The reason I ask is my oil cooler lines are at least 6-7 inches away from the manifold, and from some of the pictures that have been posted, I've seen several that were much closer.
I plan to replace mine with the Trailhead 4x4 lines, but I am curious as to the source of the problem.
Thanks

Main causes of oil cooler line fires from what I've seen are:

1. Procrastination
2. Denial
3. Age - dry rot
4. Location - exhaust

I just changed mine today, I got a set from Eric at Trailhead. Very easy to do, smaller hands would help. Started bending my old lines back and forth, sure enough one cracked bad enough to leak. I would change yours ASAP if you don't know if they ever have been changed.

So I'm not up to speed on the oil cooler lines, just the generalities

Is it specific to NAS 90's or 110's as well?
