What's your budget? If you are spending $20k on bodywork and upgrades its probably worth the extra $2k to ship it to and from ECR.

Yes I can do about 20k

I have a lot of the parts I bought to do the upgrades.

Wanted to put the rear cross member and re coat the bumper and bars.

Put on the armor I bought.

Clean up the engine bay and install new heads and cam.

Clean the fire wall. I saw some surface rust on some parts no holes.

Install new AC condenser which I have, under the dash.

Floor boards had some rust on the surface edges but door bottoms were done. I wounder if they can save them and install new bottoms?

Do full LED in and out.

Install front grill I bought.

Do hinges.

Install ARBs

Fix headliner and reseal roof if it needs it??

Would this be more then 20k in labor you think?

Thanks
George

I'm guessing labor would be half of that (10k at a max) but I haven't seen what condition things are in.

Just fly jimmy out there to do it. It'll take him a couple of hours. He might bitch a lot about that warm so Cal weather though.

Where in LA are you (I grew up out there, LA's kinda big)

Looks like you've been busy buying parts ever since saving up from selling steering wheels. There is a recommended shops thread here and I believe Four Oaks or something was mentioned quite a few times by you in that thread.

I'm sure you can find someone to do all of that work for $20k or less, but it would be worth giving ECR a call IMO. I've seen a lot of shoddy work done to Defenders. If ECR does the work, it will probably be done right. If I had to guess though, their quote will be higher than $20k, but its worth a phone call. I'm also not saying they're the only ones who can work on Defenders, I'm just saying that you know they will do it 'right.' I wouldn't get hung up on somewhere close to you since it isn't that much to ship a vehicle in comparison to the amount you are spending on your truck for repairs/upgrades.

You might get hold of Doug at Ship's Mechanical. He is in Portland, Ore. and does very good work.

Yea the wheel sales helped some but I wish it would cover all the goodies I need to make this truck right.

Four Oaks shop??? Hmm I don't know any shop by that name and haven't been to any yet?

I know! I sure as hell don't want to risk it. It's either I become the contractor and do stuff with different places or have it done by a Defender expert.

I would love to save $$$ by doing it the contractor way but just won't be the same.

Right now here are good places I know and have worked with.

A good Mechanic shop but he doesn't cleaning or coating parts and won't wait for me to have it done. Only 1 lift.

The best electrical shop in the area.

Very good body man but never seen his welds.

Very good interior guy but I bring him all the stuff.

I don't think the body man would know how to re seal the roof on these?

I would also need to take it to a exhaust shop to do a new SS with cats to the Magnaflow. I was going to use the ToddCo Headers with the new heads.

Do you have a shop or work on these your self?

Doug has worked on mine, and is about to do a bunch more work (auto trans conversion, 3.9 upgrade, A/C install). Jason Rose had his 110 worked on there recently, and a quick search showed the following board members have experience with Ship's;

RBBailey, cobalt, Hache, Outland, Manimal, Z.G., JSBriggs, Piekas, rayfi, GYM, Barry O, and Pdx-D90.

Give Doug a call & chat- you'll soon figure out if it'll work out.

Good luck!

Paul.

At $2,700, you're already part way to a 4.6 swap. I wouldn't bother putting a bunch of money into a 3.9, other than maintenance.

Hello all,

Great topic as I am also in West Coast. Looking for a project 94-97 NAS ST. Anyone you can recommend would be great. If I find any in East Coast would definitely send it to ECR as not too many good shops in LA area except British Motor. If you know of any good trucks let me know. Thanks
