Another "My Defender won't start" question
I don't drive my 1994 D-90 much anymore, so it does sit a lot. It has had the typical slow battery drain so I have a cut off switch on the battery.
The last time I started it last week, I had to charge the battery with jumper cables because I forgot to cut the battery switch off. Before the battery was charged, I tried to start it and I heard the sound of a relay going off like a rattle snake. Once it was charged it started right up.
Now it has sat for 5 days or so and I have replaced the battery since I knew that the old one was on the way out (no reason not to take advantage of a free warranty exchange)
Now the starter motor won't engage at all. When I turn the key, I hear the fuel pump prime itself, and when I turn it to start I hear a relay click but no action at all from the starter motor.
I crawled under the truck and checked that the solenoid is getting power.
I tried wacking it with a hammer but no luck.
Does this mean that I need a new starter motor? I had the same thing happen a few months ago when the starter motor would not respond at all and then worked fine the next day. . .
Oh, one more thing. . . after trying to start it, I hear a little short buzzing sound under the bonnet when I turn the key completely off. I don't recall ever hearing that before???
