Aluminum hinges installed
I've done searches for "aluminum hinge" and all the results seem to divert off to "get stainless steel" or "Britpart is garbage". So I decided to "blaze a trail" and order a set from Paddocks. I was replacing my doors at the same time, so it seemed to be a good time to do so.
The new doors are Britpart also, which I regret buying (another topic....).
The hinges were supposed to come with all mounting hardware. It came with all the nuts & bolts, including the trapped nuts attached to the body. Unfortunately they did not come with new mirror attaching screws - the old ones might work, but they will not go into the recessed holes. I had to buy four Allen head bolts.
As far as fitting the hinges, it was uneventful, i.e. it went as planned. No alignment issues, not poor fitting issues, no failures, etc... I re-used the plastic spacers on both the body and the door.
The next issue arose was because the hinges are larger than factory hinges. As other posts about aftermarket hinges and soft top doors, the hinges hit the door capping (but only one side due to crappy doors). I ended up trimming off a bit of the newly-painted capping.
I plan on leaving them unpainted - they're not shiny. Attached are a couple of photos, including one comparing the old and new size-wise.
