Alternators and Crack

OK- I've only had a D90 for a few days, well... to be exact it's still not here yet, but I should have it home in the next couple days. We have several D90's at work right now and I've noticed a trend that I don't recall ever hearing about before. Every single one of them has a significant crack in the alternator housing and always in the same spot. One of them was split completely across.
Just by chance we have four of 'em at once with split cases or is it common? FWIW- they are all 94's and 95's.

Interesting how both sides of the case are cracking as well. My guess would be that the bolts holding the two case halves together are over-torqued and causing it to splay out.
