Yep grey is tach. Would it have been possible to drift the floating spacer out and insert it with the thick end sticking out the back which would give you more clearance between the ears?

I looked into that, but the floating spacer allowed for more clearance between the ears how it is set up currently. Shaving it down a little was about all I could think to do.

I see.

Can you share the part number, price, and brand so we can have a good comparison of it and the original. Might add it to my web page as an alternate for those looking.

Thanks!

Part number is back in my garage I think (if I haven't thrown it out already) but for just the alt is $199. I'll see if I threw away my receipt. Ran great today out in the Pine Barrens after I woke up early this morning to adjust the tension on the belt.

Here's the video of it before I finished the tension on the belt this morning. First try was dead battery 1; second try was backup battery 2. You can hear the squeaking. Pretty uninteresting video but oh well.
