Alternator for '94 question

Does anyone know if an alternator from a '95 Discovery will work in a '94 D90 if I change the pulley? Can the pulley be changed easily?

So no one has ever changed a pulley or used an alternator from a disco in a D90?

I used on in my 97 from a disco. It's been working fine for years now.

Thanks for the info. I know the 97's match up fine, it is the '94's that I am concerned about. They have at least a different pully and who knows what else might be different, or the same. The only reason I am asking is because I can get a rebuilt disco alt at a really great price.

It won't work -- the pulley mount is different, the pulley is differently sized and it rotates in the opposite direction (the pulley could be switched, I suppose, and I don't rightly know if the reverse rotation is an issue and the mount could be modified to fit, but is it really worth the effort?)

Thanks! That is what I wanted to hear. I had a feeling it was a bad idea, I'll wait and get the proper one.

Thanks Again!

I will tell you that if you think it's going bad, go ahead and bite the bullet and replace it -- alternators that start freaking out can cause permanent damage to other electical components and make your life an expensive hell. I had a very longstanding issue with cooking ignition amplifiers due to an alternator that was freaking out enough to cook modules, but would still fire the tach and charge the battery. Near impossible to diagnose. No fun. I wound up getting the correct one from AB after monkey fuc#ing around with less expensive options from other vendors that all proved to be for serpentine belted trucks.
