Alpine SWE-1200 subwoofer

Anyone install one of these Alpine SWE-1200 subwoofers to there center cubby? I like the fact that it is all self contained, and neat and tucked out of the way. For those that aren't aware, this is the sub that came as on option on later Defender's.

Is it enough bass? I am not looking to rattle the fillings out, just add some bass to my setup. Currently I just have some Kenwood speakers being powered by a head unit. I can hear it all well and good with all windows open on the highway, but there is no bass.

Trying to set it up like this

If you're just trying to add some bass and this is a subwoofer, then this will certainly suffice.

I guess I was looking for more of a "Sounds like shit, get something else" or "Sounds great, just what you are looking for". I guess ill take the $240 gamble and report back. Ill order it this week, and get to cutting and removing my rear bulkhead.

This one is also very tempting. Costs a good bit more, but I am sure has a lot more punch. Not sure if it will fit, being 7.5" wider then the Alpine. Roughly same height, and a bit less deep. I guess I will take some measurements later tonight.

Quite a few threads on subs / subwoofers etc. if you search around. Here's a recent one with some ideas.

There's also the Kenwood powered sub. It's measurements are 7.5x11in. I believe. It's under $200 and has good reviews. I have one, I just need to hook it up.

I pulled the trigger. I have been eyeing this thing for a while. I looked at all the measurements and it really is the best fit. Hopefully it has enough bass for me. $240 shipped on eBay. Ill update when I get it installed.

I have this installed in my truck, and installed it for the same reasons you mentioned. Wanted a little more bass, but mostly didn't want it to eat up all my cargo space. I think it looks great, is up out of the way of cargo and foot space AND sounds good. It definitely isn't going to rattle your windows, but it does help you hear music while on the highway.

Another good option is the Focal ibus 2.0 It's only 14"W x 3"H x 9-7/8"D, I have had one on my shelf for a year, and hopefully will be installing it in the next couple weeks. Easily fits under the rear seat.

Had to have a listen when I got it, so I powered it up and connected it to the RCA outputs. WOW, I was really impressed for an 8" sub in a small enclosure it's got some punch.

Built-in amplifier (75 watts RMS/150 watts peak)

I've got one and it's exactly what I need. Mine is mounted on my back door... Lots of oomph for a 8".

Thanks for the posts guys. Man that Focal is sweet, everything they make is so nice. That is out of my budget at more than 2X the cost of the Alpine. The Alpine shipped out this morning.

I just need to remove my rear bulkhead out so I can install it. Anyone want to come help? =)

Just got the subwoofer from the Post Office. Looks like it is a perfect fit behind the locking Exmoor cubby. Just need to remove the elastic map pocket from the back and bolt it on. And remove my rear bulkhead...
