Adjusting R380 linkage--hard to shift to 3rd

I got my truck running tonight and went on a short test drive. I am having difficulty shifting from 2nd to 3rd with my new R380 transmission--I figure there is a way to adjust the linkage to make the transition smooth, I just can't find out how. I have to wiggle the gear lever around until it finds its 'slot'. Any advice?

Thanks!

Does the stick have loose play in it when you are in neutral? There are those two 10mm or 8mm bolts that push the weird double sided spring up to tighten the slack in the stick... that could be it. But it sounds like you are having more of an internal shift issue. Is that it or are you talking about just a loose stick that won't stay straight when shifting through the gears?

IF its a new or rebuilt trans, there are adjustment screws to set the stick.. Follow Daves link. I can take a pic of a a trans if needed to show you what they mean.

Thanks, guys--I am pretty sure it is the 3/4 adjusting springs. I will take a look at those and tweak it. Much appreciated.

Yep, adjusted the 3/4 resting position and shifts great. Now just to fix that leaking fuel injector!

took me all of 10 minutes to adjust--8 of those minutes were removing the boots and such. I love the easy ones! If any of you have difficulty in shifting into 3/4 gears (not synchro issues, but as if the shifter is not going into the right slot), then this is a quick adjustment that makes a huge difference.

Just follow Dave Ashcrofts description from the link given by Ren above...
