AC Removal: what is this connector

I removed the AC and unplugged this connector at the center of the photo. It looks like a temps sensor or switch of some kind. My questions are:

- What is it ?
- Is it important if I no longer have AC ?
- If it's a switch, can I use it to switch on an electric fan (Kenlowe in my case) instead of the stupid electronic module that keeps failing ?

Thanks
