Do you have existing ac? I think this runs in conjunction with it, but I could be wrong. Nice bit of kit, and despite the fact that it's been available for a little less than a year, I've never seen or heard of one installed. No more cubby, but nice cool air for row 2. A real nice finish to it.

I'm having the under dash system installed by CoolAir Logan at the their shop in the Uk. I'm debating whether i should have them put the rear system in while the truck is in their shop. Anyone have experience with it?

Thanks for the thread. Looking into it for my truck. Planning a cross country drive in spring/summer next year so leaning toward a yes.

If you've got the scratch, I'd do it now! Their brand, their job to do, their warranty. It will only be a benefit, and if you don't like it, you can easily remove it. Installing it after the fact would be much more difficult. Good luck and report back if you do it. All the best-Dave

I just noticed that there are 2 different rear AC units. One is just an AC unit and the other is an AC/Heat combo unit. The incremental cost of installing the combo unit is around $1,000 since it is already in their shop. I think i will go for it and report back on the quality/effectiveness. Will have people in the rear of the truck on family road trips fairly often so will be a nice add for them.

That's a no brainer! I was just on the phone earlier with Rovers North confirming it would work with my existing AC, they want > $2k just for the unit itself. I'd definitely get the unit with heat, my 6 year old complains about being cold on winter mornings sitting in the second row.

i think he means it is $1000 more for the AC/Heat combo. That thing is heinous. No way I would bother with that.

Your truck clear US Customs yet? If not you are playing with fire IMO. I've spoken to the "guy" that Customs sends their photos to and one of the things on his "list" was aftermarket A/C. If it was my truck I would get it installed state side.

LOL. That is hilarious! Yeah, especially since I'm 6'4" and have seat rail extenders installed...

I can't answer that as I am only the messenger. I heard it right from the horses mouth not second hand. I was originally looking at a truck with A/C installed, and called the DOT a few times to make sure I was doing everything by the book. Just trying to help a fellow member avoid a potential headache.

If I was OP I would call the DOT and ask. They will pass him around a bunch and eventually will get the person who has the answer to this question.

who is the guy? I would think he would be on the look out for factory a/c not aftermarket... plenty of legal trucks coming in with aftermarket a/c.

The guy is the person at the DOT who handles Defenders. I am not comfortable giving out his contact info, but if you call the DOT you will eventually get directed to him. That is how I got in touch with him.
